   엘벧엘은 야곱이 벧엘에서 쌓은 제단에 붙인 이름으로, ‘벧엘의 하나님’이라는 뜻이다. 야곱이 형 에서를 피해 도망할 때 하나님이 나타나신 일을 기억한다.
