   에피파네스 — ‘에피파네스’는 셀레우코스 왕 안티오코스 4세의 칭호로, 유대인을 박해하고 성전을 더럽힌 왕으로 이해된다. 뜻은 대략 ‘나타난 신’이라는 의미이다.

   • Out of one of them (Antiochus IV Epiphanes) came forth a rather small horn [but one of irreverent presumption and profane pride] which grew exceedingly powerful toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Beautiful Land (Israel).

   • Then he (Antiochus IV Epiphanes) will return to his land with great treasure (plunder); and his heart will be set against the holy covenant, and he will take action and return to his own land (Syria).
