뉘앙스 · 쓰임
authoritative는 대체로 긍정적으로 ‘권위 있고 믿을 만한’이라는 뜻입니다. authoritarian은 ‘권위주의적인, 독재적인’이라는 부정적 뉘앙스가 강하므로 혼동하지 않는 것이 좋습니다. authorized는 ‘공식적으로 허가된’이라는 뜻으로, authoritative와 다릅니다.
정보원이나 참고서에는 an authoritative source, an authoritative guide처럼 쓰입니다. 사람의 말투에는 an authoritative voice/tone처럼 쓰이며, 이때는 ‘자신감 있고 단호한’ 느낌입니다. 너무 강압적이라는 뜻을 분명히 하려면 authoritarian, bossy, domineering 등을 쓰는 편이 더 정확합니다.
